Sporting Lagos target another win as Abia Warriors visit in NPFL

Sporting Lagos head coach Jeffrey Buter is aiming for maximum points when his team host Abia Warriors in their Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, matchday four fixture on Sunday.

The Noisy Lagosians will face Imama Amapakabo’s side at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, with Sporting Lagos looking to build on their previous result.

Buter’s team go into the game with renewed confidence after beating city rivals Inter Lagos in their last outing. The victory ended their wait for a win and gave the squad added encouragement before the meeting with Abia Warriors.

The Sporting Lagos manager says the derby success has been set aside, however, as his players focus on the next challenge.

“We have had a week of rest and training, and the boys look ready. We have put the success of our last game behind us,” Buter said in a pre-match interview.

“We look forward to Sunday, as we have had a good week of preparation.”

Buter believes the result against Inter Lagos was particularly significant because his side were determined to avoid a second consecutive match without victory.

“The win over Inter Lagos was important because we didn’t want to go two games without a win,” he added.

“It will also help us build momentum ahead of the Abia Warriors clash and beyond.”

Sporting Lagos will now attempt to turn that momentum into another positive result when Abia Warriors arrive in Lagos. Buter wants his players to maintain the standards shown in the derby and claim all three points from Sunday’s encounter.
