NFF Set to Begin Adidas Partnership Worth $4.5m Annually

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is set to begin a new technical sponsorship agreement with Adidas in September 2026, with the deal expected to provide the federation with about $4.5 million in annual cash payments, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Former NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau disclosed the details of the agreement during a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, revealing that Adidas will also supply kits worth approximately $2 million annually to Nigeria’s national teams.

According to Gusau, the overall package, which includes cash payments, kit supplies and merchandise royalties, represents a significant improvement on the federation’s previous partnership with Nike.

“We have to seek the permission of Nike even before we talked to Adidas. They gave us the go-ahead because of our past relationship,” Gusau said.

He explained that Nike retained the right to assess the quality of products offered by any potential technical partner because of its existing contractual relationship with the NFF.

“We were able to get a good response from Adidas, and secondly, Nike has the right to check the quality of whatever any company is bringing,” he added.

Adidas Deal to Start in September

Gusau said the NFF had initially planned to announce the partnership formally in September but decided to reveal details earlier because the contract had already been signed.

“This announcement is supposed to come in September, but today I have to say it because the contract has been duly signed and it is going to be a great turnover for Nigerian football,” he said.

Under the agreement, Adidas will provide the NFF with $4.5 million in cash each year, alongside approximately $2 million worth of kits for the country’s various national teams.

The agreement also includes royalties from Adidas merchandise sales in Nigeria, potentially creating another significant revenue stream for the federation.

NFF to Receive 20 Per Cent From Merchandise Sales

Gusau revealed that Adidas currently operates about 13 outlets in Nigeria and plans to expand its retail presence to approximately 32 shops within two years.

He said the NFF would receive 20 per cent of sales generated under the arrangement.

“This is apart from the royalties. Nike has only one shop in Nigeria, but Adidas has about 13 shops and has promised to increase it to about 32 shops in two years,” Gusau said.

“NFF will have 20 per cent of the sales they make.”

Gusau: Adidas Deal Can Fund Super Eagles, Falcons Coaches

The former NFF president believes the financial benefits of the agreement could ease the federation’s burden of paying coaches of the Super Eagles and Super Falcons.

Gusau argued that the revenue generated through the Adidas partnership could provide sufficient funds to recruit and retain high-profile coaches for both senior national teams.

“With this, the issue of paying the Super Eagles and Super Falcons coaches can be taken care of from this Adidas deal,” he said.

“This money will be enough for the NFF to hire a high-profile coach for the Super Eagles and Super Falcons and pay them handsomely.”

The partnership is expected to strengthen the NFF’s commercial position, improve access to official national-team kits and provide additional financial resources as the federation manages the increasing costs associated with Nigeria’s international football programmes.
