Victor Boniface is reportedly attracting interest from Hannover 96, with the 2. Bundesliga club considering a move for the Super Eagles striker as they look to strengthen their attack before the close of the transfer window, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
According to German outlet Neupresse, Boniface is among several attacking options being assessed by Hannover, who could offer the 25-year-old another opportunity to revive his career in German football.
Boniface returned to Bayer Leverkusen this summer following a difficult loan spell at Werder Bremen, where he failed to score in 11 appearances during the 2025/26 campaign.
His time at Werder came after an injury-hit spell at Leverkusen, with fitness problems limiting his progress at the Bundesliga club. The Nigerian remains under contract with Leverkusen until June 2029.
However, Boniface has enjoyed a promising pre-season and appears to have improved his standing within the Leverkusen squad. He scored twice within four minutes during a 7-0 victory over Sportfreunde Baumberg in July before producing another strong display in the 3-1 win over Kickers Offenbach.
He continued his impressive form against Newcastle United on August 15, coming off the bench to score an 82nd-minute winner and secure a 2-1 victory for Leverkusen.
The striker is now targeting a much-improved 2026/27 season and has set himself a personal target of scoring at least 20 goals.
Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes has acknowledged Boniface’s progress but noted that the Nigerian is still working towards regaining the fitness required to complete 90 minutes.
Competition for attacking positions could nevertheless make his future uncertain, with Patrik Schick and Christian Kofane also competing for places in the Leverkusen forward line.
A potential move to Hannover could ultimately depend on Leverkusen’s plans for Boniface. His wages and long-term contract could make a permanent transfer challenging, while a loan arrangement may represent a more realistic option for the clubs involved.
