Moussa Ndiaye’s early header has given Senegal a half-time lead over Guinea in their UFOA A U17 semi-final.
The Lionceaux made the quicker start in a match that had promised an attacking contest, with both sides moving forward from the opening minutes. Senegal were the first to threaten in and around the Guinea penalty area.
Their pressure was rewarded after 15 minutes when they won a free-kick close to the technical area. Maguette Gueye delivered the ball into the box, where the Guinean defence failed to react decisively.
Goalkeeper Oumar Konate came off his line but hesitated during his attempt to reach the cross. That allowed Ndiaye to meet the delivery with a header and send the ball past Konate at the near post.
The goal increased Senegal’s confidence, and they controlled a significant share of the play for much of the half. Guinea struggled to contain their opponents as the Lionceaux looked to build on their advantage.
Guinea improved during the final 10 minutes before the interval and began to apply pressure in search of an equaliser. Salif Camara, Boubacar Diallo and Alpha Camara each tested Senegal’s defence, but their efforts were stopped by the firm hands of goalkeeper Assane Sarr.
Senegal therefore go into the break with the lead, although Guinea remain within touching distance. The contest is still open, with Guinea needing to find a way through the Senegalese defence after the interval.
