Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Matvey Safonov has published a post on his Telegram channel following the club’s 2-1 home defeat by Monaco in the third round of Ligue 1.
The result at Parc des Princes left Paris Saint-Germain with only two points from their opening three league matches. They are 12th in the Ligue 1 table after a difficult start to the 2026-27 campaign.
Safonov’s post came after a match in which Monaco secured all three points against the reigning French champions. The Russian goalkeeper was criticised by the French media after the defeat and received one of the lowest ratings among Paris Saint-Germain players.
The 2-1 scoreline means Paris Saint-Germain have now suffered another setback at the beginning of the season. Monaco’s victory at Parc des Princes also added to the pressure surrounding the team’s early league form, with the club currently outside the leading positions after three rounds.
Safonov has yet to keep a clean sheet in the 2026-27 season. Across the campaign so far, opponents have registered 15 shots on target against him. He has saved seven of those efforts and conceded eight goals.
Those figures were part of the scrutiny directed towards the goalkeeper following the Monaco match. However, the contents of Safonov’s Telegram post were not provided in the report, and he has not been quoted directly.
For Paris Saint-Germain, the defeat represents a disappointing return from a home fixture. The team has taken just two points from its first three Ligue 1 games, a tally that leaves it in 12th place in the standings.
The match against Monaco was played at Parc des Princes and ended 2-1 in favour of the visitors. Safonov’s appearance was his latest for the club during a season in which he has not yet recorded a clean sheet.
His statistical record after the opening three matches shows eight goals conceded from the 15 shots on target faced. Seven attempts were stopped, but none of the Russian’s appearances has ended with Paris Saint-Germain keeping a clean sheet.
The result and the goalkeeper’s performance have therefore attracted attention in France, while Safonov has responded by publishing on his Telegram channel. The report did not specify whether the post addressed the defeat, the criticism from French media or his individual performance.
Paris Saint-Germain will now look to improve their league position after dropping to 12th following the loss. Monaco, meanwhile, left the French capital with a 2-1 victory from the third-round meeting.
