Manchester City held talks with Premier League over financial rules case

Manchester City held discussions with the Premier League about settling its case involving alleged financial rule breaches before an independent commission found the club guilty on almost all counts, Bloomberg reports.

The talks ended without agreement after quickly reaching an impasse, with Manchester City continuing to maintain that it had not committed any wrongdoing.

One option under consideration would have allowed the club to resolve the case through a substantial financial payment. In return, Manchester City would have avoided the potentially more severe penalties of expulsion from the Premier League and the removal of its titles.

The proceedings concern 115 allegations of financial misconduct against Manchester City. An independent Premier League commission has found the club guilty, but the final sanctions have not yet been decided.

The case has therefore not reached its conclusion, with the penalties to be imposed still outstanding.
