Katsina United head coach Mohammed Azeez Audu has told his players they must be equally effective in possession and without the ball when they face Kano Pillars in the Nigeria Premier Football League on Sunday.
Audu’s warning follows Katsina United’s impressive 4-2 victory over Enyimba last weekend, but the coach has urged his squad not to allow that result to lead to complacency ahead of their next important fixture.
The manager used Tuesday’s training session to emphasise the need for better ball management, quick transitions and a collective approach throughout the match.
“If you lose the ball, you have to defend well. If you are with the ball, you have to attack well,” Audu told his players.
“Don’t have energy in just one direction of play.”
His message was aimed at ensuring Katsina United remain organised in both phases, rather than focusing solely on maintaining the attacking form that produced four goals against the Peoples’ Elephant.
The club will hope to carry that attacking momentum into Sunday’s meeting with Kano Pillars while also improving its defensive structure. Audu is seeking another important three points as his side prepares for a demanding run of league fixtures.
The victory against Enyimba provided Katsina United with a strong platform, but the coach’s instructions show that he expects a more balanced display against Kano Pillars. His players have been asked to react immediately when possession changes and contribute to the team’s work at both ends of the pitch.
The clash represents the next test of whether Katsina United can combine their recent scoring output with the defensive discipline required to secure another valuable result in the Nigeria Premier Football League.
