Brahim Hemdani has named his first Algeria squad since becoming head coach, selecting 26 players for the Fennecs’ next two CAN 2027 qualifying matches.
While several established members of the team retain their places, the squad also includes a number of players whose roles could grow under Hemdani. Algeria will face Zambia and Burundi in the upcoming fixtures.
Sohaib Nair is among the players attracting attention. The AS Saint-Etienne central defender has previously been called up by Algeria but has yet to make his debut for the national side.
Nair was developed in France and plays in central defence, giving Hemdani another option as competition increases for places in that area of the team.
Stade Rennais goalkeeper Kilian Belazzoug is also familiar with the Algeria set-up. The 20-year-old was called up earlier this year and continues to develop at international level.
Achraf Abada, an USM Alger defender, has likewise already experienced life with the senior squad. He first joined Algeria in 2026 and featured in the friendly matches against Guatemala and Uruguay.
The latest selection also marks the return of several players rather than the arrival of entirely new faces.
Ilan Kebbal is back after missing Algeria’s squad for the 2026 World Cup. The Paris FC attacking midfielder enjoyed an impressive 2025-2026 Ligue 1 campaign, scoring nine goals and providing four assists.
Adil Aouchiche, Himad Abdelli, Adem Zorgane and Saadi Radouani have also been recalled by Hemdani.
Bachir Belloumi completes the group of returning players. His experience in England with Hull City is among the factors behind his inclusion as the new coach assesses his options ahead of the matches against Zambia and Burundi.
The selection therefore combines the continuity provided by Algeria’s established internationals with opportunities for players seeking a larger role. For Hemdani, the two CAN 2027 qualifiers will offer an early opportunity to assess the balance of the squad and the contribution of the recalled and emerging members.
