Enyimba will aim to secure their first points of the 2026/27 EuroMatch/NPFL campaign when they host Inter Lagos at the Enyimba Stadium in Aba on Sunday.
The Matchday 4 fixture could be the nine-time champions’ first home game of the season after their scheduled Matchday 3 meeting with traditional rivals Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan was postponed.
That match was called off because 3SC were involved in CAF inter-club competition last weekend.
Enyimba have endured a difficult start to the campaign, losing their opening two matches away from home. They were beaten 2-1 by Niger Tornadoes before suffering a 2-0 defeat by Doma United.
With the team still searching for its first victory, the club’s board visited the players at their training ground on Wednesday to offer encouragement ahead of the meeting with Inter Lagos.
The delegation was led by chairman Nwankwo Kanu, the FIFA Ambassador and former Nigeria international. It was the first occasion this season that the board had met the squad.
The visit was described as a positive boost for the players, with vice-chairman Captain Eric Iheanacho Asogwa speaking on behalf of the board.
Asogwa pledged the board’s full backing for the players, the chairman and the wider running of the club.
“Our Chairman is a man of peace. We are here to support him and to support the club as well,” he said.
He also reminded the squad of the expectations surrounding Enyimba and set out the club’s ambition for the season.
“Many people are looking up to you, including younger ones. Enyimba should win the league this season. We are here to promise you our support,” Asogwa said.
He assured the players that they had the backing of the club’s leadership and administrative staff.
“I’m telling you that the Chairman, the Board and all the administrative crew are behind you. We have decided to support this team,” he added.
Asogwa stressed that the board was united under Kanu’s leadership as Enyimba seek to recover from their two away defeats.
“We are working as a team under the leadership of the Chairman, Nwankwo Kanu,” he said.
Enyimba, who are also two-time CAF Champions League winners, now turn their attention to Inter Lagos and the opportunity to begin their home campaign with a positive result.
The People’s Elephant will be seeking their first three points of the season when the two sides meet at the Enyimba Stadium, Aba, on Sunday.
