Edo Queens produced a commanding display to beat hosts USFA 5-1 and secure their place in the final of the WAFU B Women’s Champions League.
The Nigerian champions established control early in Wednesday’s semi-final, opening the scoring in the 17th minute through Atume Doosuur.
USFA were unable to contain Edo Queens’ attacking threat as the game progressed. Chioma Moses added a second goal two minutes before half-time, giving the Benin City club a comfortable advantage before the interval.
Edo Queens then struck again in first-half stoppage time, with Valentina Uroko converting a superb long-range free-kick to make it 3-0.
The Nigerian side continued to dictate the contest after the restart and extended their lead shortly afterwards. Doshima Tarnum scored Edo Queens’ fourth goal, leaving USFA with a sizeable task to prevent the semi-final from becoming a rout.
That task became even more difficult two minutes after the hour mark when Aminat Folorunsho completed the scoring for Edo Queens. Her goal made it 5-0 and secured the Benin City club’s fifth goal of the match.
USFA managed to score a late consolation from a free-kick, but the hosts’ response came too late to change the outcome. The goal did little to diminish a dominant performance from the Nigerian champions, who had already established a decisive advantage.
Edo Queens will now play in the WAFU B Women’s Champions League final, where they will meet either Ghana’s Ampem Darkoa or Benin Republic’s Dynamique FC.
Those two teams will contest the other semi-final, with the winner earning the right to face Edo Queens for the title.
The result completes an emphatic route into the final for Edo Queens, who combined early pressure with clinical finishing to overcome USFA. Their five goals came from five different scorers: Atume Doosuur, Chioma Moses, Valentina Uroko, Doshima Tarnum and Aminat Folorunsho.
USFA, despite being the host side, could not match the Nigerians’ intensity during the decisive stages of the match. Edo Queens had already built a three-goal lead by half-time and added twice more after the break before the hosts found a late answer.
The Nigerian champions will now await the outcome of the second semi-final before discovering their final opponents. Whatever the result of that match, Edo Queens will go into the showpiece after a powerful semi-final performance in which they scored five times and conceded only once.
