Nigerian striker Adeleke Akinyemi emerges as Neftchi PFK transfer target

Nigeria forward Adeleke Akinyemi is the subject of a reported move from Finnish club IF Gnistan to Azerbaijan Premier League side Neftchi PFK.

The 28-year-old centre-forward has made an immediate impact in the Veikkausliiga this season, scoring 13 goals and providing one assist in 22 appearances. He has started 91% of Gnistan’s league matches and has been involved in 39% of the club’s league goals.

Akinyemi joined IF Gnistan from fellow Finnish side Ilves on 27 January 2026, arriving on a free transfer. His current deal with Gnistan runs until 31 December 2027, meaning any move would involve a player under contract rather than a free-agent departure.

The Lagos-born striker is valued at €250,000 and has previously played in Finland, the Czech Republic, Norway, Albania, Latvia and Kosovo. His career honours include winning the Czech second division with MFK Karvina in the 2022-23 season and the Latvian Cup with JFK Ventspils in 2017.

Akinyemi also scored twice and supplied one assist in four Liigacup appearances for Gnistan earlier in 2026. He remains registered as an IF Gnistan player, with Neftchi’s interest currently at the rumour stage.
