Como will play their home matches in the 2026-27 Champions League at Giuseppe Sinigaglia after the stadium was brought up to UEFA standards.
The club has officially confirmed that the ground will be used for the club’s first-ever Champions League campaign, following the completion of the required renovation work. Football Italia reports that the stadium now meets the regulations needed to host matches in the competition.
Como secured Champions League qualification after finishing the 2025-26 season in a position that earned them a place in Europe’s leading club tournament. However, there had previously been uncertainty over whether Giuseppe Sinigaglia would be approved for the fixtures.
The main alternative under consideration was Mapei Stadium, which is approximately 200 kilometres from Como. That venue had been discussed as a possible temporary home in case the club’s own ground could not satisfy UEFA’s requirements.
Those concerns have now been addressed. A new stand has been constructed at Giuseppe Sinigaglia, while improvements have also been made to the stadium’s infrastructure and security systems.
The redevelopment has increased the arena’s capacity to 12,379 spectators. About 2,000 of those places, however, will be available to be filled only for Como’s domestic league matches.
Como’s confirmation means the club will be able to welcome Champions League opposition at their historic home rather than relocating their European fixtures elsewhere. It also marks a significant moment for a side preparing to compete in the tournament for the first time in its history.
The stadium work was therefore central to the club’s preparations for the 2026-27 season. Until the upgrades were completed, the possibility of playing at Mapei Stadium remained open because of the doubts surrounding Giuseppe Sinigaglia’s suitability.
With the necessary changes now finished and the ground aligned with UEFA’s requirements, Como have retained the right to stage their European matches in the city. Their home Champions League fixtures will consequently take place at Giuseppe Sinigaglia, subject to the competition schedule.
