Austrian Bundesliga side FK Austria Wien have completed the signing of Nigerian defender Ibrahim Buhari from Swedish club IF Elfsborg, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The centre-back has signed a long-term contract with the Austrian club that will keep him at the Generali Arena until the summer of 2029.
Sporting director Tomas Zorn expressed his satisfaction after securing Buhari's signature, describing the Nigerian as a perfect fit for the club's defensive plans.
"With Ibrahim Buhari, we have secured a central defender whose athleticism and physique perfectly match our requirements," Zorn told the club's official website.
"As part of our planning, we thoroughly explored the market and ultimately made a conscious decision to sign Ibrahim because he possesses precisely the qualities we were looking for in our defence."
"At the same time, we remain true to our strategy of consistently rejuvenating our squad. We are convinced that Ibrahim is an excellent fit for Austria Vienna, both on and off the pitch, and that his qualities will enrich our team."
Buhari arrives in Austria after a successful spell with IF Elfsborg, whom he joined from Nigeria Premier Football League side Plateau United in 2022.
During his time in Sweden, the Nigerian defender established himself as a key member of the squad, making 77 appearances across all competitions for the club.
The move marks another important step in Buhari's career as he prepares for a new challenge in the Austrian Bundesliga with one of the country's most established clubs.
