Hakimi's mother reveals son's confidence before African Player of the Year snub
Achraf Hakimi's mother, Saida Mouh, has shared her son's surprising confidence before losing out on the African Men's Player of the Year award to Ademola Lookman, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
Mouh, speaking to Al-Araby via Fennec Football, claimed Hakimi was so certain he would win the award that he urged his mother to attend the ceremony in Marrakech.
"My son asked me to come urgently to Marrakech to be present at the CAF Awards ceremony," Mouh said.
"He spoke with such certainty that he was the winner. Maybe he had been informed before the event, but in the end, the trophy went to Ademola Lookman."
Hakimi, 26, had an impressive year with PSG, helping the team win the Ligue 1 title and contributing five goals and seven assists in 40 appearances across all competitions.
This season, Hakimi has continued to impress with three goals and seven assists in 20 games for PSG.
Despite his impressive form, Hakimi ultimately lost out on the African Player of the Year award to Lookman, who also defeated Serhou Guirassy, Ronwen Williams, and Simon Adingra to claim the honor.
