Guinea-Bissau produced one of the biggest results in the opening stages of the CAN 2027 qualifying campaign by beating Nigeria 3-0 at home on Tuesday, 29 September 2026.

The Djurtus took control of the second-round fixture against one of African football’s leading sides and secured a convincing victory without conceding. The result gives Guinea-Bissau an important boost in their qualification campaign, while Nigeria were left without an answer to the hosts’ disciplined performance.

Dju puts Guinea-Bissau in front

Guinea-Bissau made the stronger start and went ahead after 15 minutes. Franculino Dju found the net to give the home side the advantage and set the tone for an impressive display.

The Djurtus remained organised after taking the lead, combining a solid defensive structure with careful play in possession. Nigeria attempted to respond before the interval, but the visitors were unable to break through and Guinea-Bissau reached half-time still in front.

The Super Eagles made several attacking adjustments after the restart as they looked to change the direction of the match. However, those changes did not produce the equaliser they needed.

Guinea-Bissau’s defence stayed disciplined and offered Nigeria’s forwards very little space. The hosts dealt with the pressure effectively, limiting the visitors’ opportunities and preserving their narrow advantage.

Balde doubles the lead

Nigeria’s hopes of recovering suffered another setback in the 66th minute. Mama Balde scored Guinea-Bissau’s second goal, putting the Djurtus in a commanding position and moving them closer to a notable victory.

The Super Eagles were unable to respond despite continuing to search for a way back into the contest. Guinea-Bissau managed their advantage with composure and prevented Nigeria from building sustained momentum.

The hosts then added a third goal in stoppage time. Alvaro Djalo scored in the 90+5th minute to complete the victory and confirm a 3-0 result.

The final score reflected Guinea-Bissau’s control of the match after Franculino Dju’s opener. Their success against Nigeria represents a strong statement in the CAN 2027 qualifying campaign, while the Super Eagles were beaten twice after failing to overturn the early deficit.
