Guardiola thinks Sane will be OK

Pep Guardiola has played down the knee injury Leroy Sane picked up in the first half of Manchester City's Community Shield victory against Liverpool on Sunday.

The German winger had to be substituted after only 11 minutes of the Wembley clash with what appeared to be an injury to his right knee.

However, Guardiola said of Sane, who continues to be linked with a transfer to Bayern Munich: "First impression wasn't good but I don't know if it's bad.

"We will wait to see what the doctor says but I think he will be OK."

Meanwhile, Guardiola said of his side's victory against Liverpool after a penalty shoot-out following a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes: "I don't think there will be two contenders to win the Premier League [this season].

"United have signed [Harry] Maguire. There will be many contenders this time.

"Liverpool are the champions of Europe and that's why I give a lot of credit for our victory on Sunday. They are a top-class team. The difference was one penalty. It's good to face them to see how well prepared we have to be to try and win the titles."

Manchester City can be backed at 1/2 to win the Premier League title for the third campaign in a row in 2019/20 while they are 1/4 to beat West Ham United in their first game of the season on Saturday. Sane is 10/1 to be their top goalscorer in the top-flight this term.
