AAFCON: Special Eagles hold host in opener

Nigeria Amputee football team started their campaign of the Amputee African Cup of Nations with a draw against host, Egypt in the first match of the tournament, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

The group A tie ended goalless between the West And the North Africans at the Cairo, Al Salam Stadium on Saturday as the 7th edition of the competition kicked off.

Nigeria share group A with host nation Egypt and Burundi as the compete in their 7 AAFCON.

Thirteen teams will compete in the group stage to secure one of the seven coveted spots Africa will have at the upcoming 2026 World Cup of the World Amputee Football Federation (WAFF).

The Amputee Eagles who are yet to win the trophy will seek to better their best performance in 2019 in Angola were they finished second and qualify for WAFF for the second time after maiden participation in 2018 in Mexico.
