Ex-"?Torino boss Giampiero Ventura has been confirmed as the man who will formally succeed Antonio Conte as new Italy head coach after Euro 2016.

The 68-year-old, who started his coaching career with the youth team at home-town club Sampdoria, will begin his new job in July once Conte has departed to take over at Chelsea in a return to club management after two years with the national team.

After being promoted to assistant coach at Sampdoria in 1979, Ventura has been a manager in his own right for over 30 years.

He began at Ruentes Rapallo in 1981 and began working his way up the Italian league system. He worked at Venezia, Lecce and Udinese in the 1990s, before a spell back with Sampdoria, and time with Cagliari, Napoli, Hellas Verona, Pisa and Bari.

Ventura took over at Torino in 2011 and the four seasons he spent with the Granata is the longest he has stayed with any club. The move across to the Azzurri represents his first international coaching job.
