Gernot Rohr: John Ogu must leave Israel to brighten Super Eagles chance

Super Eagles gaffer Gernot Rohr has charged John Ogu to dump the Israeli league for a stronger league if he’s to challenge for a starting spot in the National team.

Ogu replaced suspended Wilfred Ndidi in Nigeria‘s 2019 AFCON qualifier game against South Africa in Johannesburg on Saturday and started Tuesday‘s international friendly match against Cranes of Uganda in the back four.

Rohr said the Hapoel Be’er Sheva defensive midfielder performedvery well in both games but he’s struggling to get game time in the Super Eagles because the Israeli league is not competitive and has to move to better championship.

“He had a responsibility to replace Ndidi and he did exceptionally well against South Africa,” Rohr said to journalists.

“He is a good player but he plays in Israel. Israel is not on a real high level. I hope he finds a new club in another league.

”I love Ogu because he is very disciplined and also very tall like Ndidi which is good for teams with tall players like South Africa which we played last Saturday.

“We need a good balance between tall and short players in our team. If he finds a new club he will progress better than he is presently.” he concluded.
