Lamine Yamal strengthened his case as one of football’s leading young players by scoring for Spain against Czechia in their 3-1 Nations League victory.
The Barcelona winger’s performance came after a supporter accused transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano of promoting the Spain international too heavily in the comments below one of Romano’s social media posts.
“He really is promoting Yamal,” the fan wrote.
Romano replied with a reference to Yamal’s recent record: “Yes, with 19 goal involvements in nine matches, he really needs our promotion, haha.”
The Italian’s response attracted a large number of likes.
Yamal is regarded as one of the leading contenders for the 2026 Ballon d’Or. The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on 26 October.
