Everton Chief Visits 2 Potential Sites for New Stadium as Search Continues

"?Everton's majority shareholder, Farhad Moshiri, has visited two potential sites for the clubs' proposed new stadium, as reported by the "?Guardian.

The Toffees are keen to move out of Goodison Park and join a number of Premier League clubs in building new stadiums. The current stadium can hold just under 40,000 people and with the increasing demands of the league's audiences, the club feel that an improved capacity is integral to Everton's future.

Moshiri is understood to have visited both the Bramley Moore Dock and Stonebridge Cross sites, along with a number of other club officials on Friday.

Everton have made it clear that they prefer the site on the Mersey Waterfront and Moshiri, along with club Chairman Bill Kenwright, have been in discussions with Liverpool City Council and current occupiers, Peel Holdings, for several months.

One of the biggest complications over the deal appears to be the price of the Bramley Moore Docks, with Peel Holdings asking Everton to pay £30m for it. Although negotiations are ongoing, the site on the docks requires significant enabling work before the building of a new stadium can take place.

The other potential area for the stadium visited by Moshiri, Stonebridge Cross, is reportedly ready for development but there is no suggestion as yet that Everton want to negotiate a deal with the current owners as they look to secure the site at Bramley Moore.

The Toffees will be desperate to agree a deal with Peel Holdings having missed the opportunity to build a new stadium around a similar location, believed to be King's dock, back in 2003.
