Emery urges concentration

Arsenal boss Unai Emery said that his team lost concentration after tasting defeat in pre-season.

His team lost 2-1 to Lyon in the Emirates Cup, the Gunners taking the lead through Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang but conceding two second half goals from Moussa Dembele to give the French side victory.

The focus and concentration maybe wasn't there as much in the second half.

Of more concern than the defeat however was an ankle injury suffered by Alexandre Lacazette who limped off after just 15 minutes of the friendly and was seen later wearing a protective boot.

However Emery, after the match reassured fans by saying the injury wasn't serious though the striker will be assessed over the coming days.

Of the game itself, Emery said there was obvious room for improvement, saying: "We defended well in the first half. The second half we switched off.

"The focus and concentration maybe wasn't there as much in the second half. We were winning and playing very well...but we lost. We're going to work and watch to improve."

Emery also mentioned the possible signing of Nicolas Pepe from Lille before the start of the season following news that the two clubs have agreed a fee for the Ivory Coast winger.

He scored 23 goals for Lille last season and Emery said of his possible signing: "Again, we really want players who make the squad better than last year.

"The club is thinking on how we can improve. There are different players on the table. Pepe's a very good player. We only want players who can really, really improve the squad. We want the best players possible for the first game at Newcastle."

Arsenal continue their pre-season with fixtures against Angers next Wednesday and then a match at the Nou Camp on Sunday against Barcelona.

The Gunners then start the new Premier League season with a trip to St James' Park to face Newcastle on 11th August. Arsenal are 19/20 to start off with a win with Newcastle 14/5 and the draw 5/2.

Arsenal are 6/4 to finish in the top four of the Premier League next season and Aubameyang is priced at 8/1 to finish as the top goalscorer in the league.
