Super Eagles interim head coach Augustine ‘Cerezo’ Eguavoen is expected to arrive in Uyo ahead of the crucial second-leg clash of the 2024 CHAN qualifier between Nigeria’s home-based Eagles and the Black Galaxies of Ghana, Nigeriasoccernet.com gathered.
The highly anticipated match is scheduled for Saturday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.
The 59-year-old tactician missed the first leg in Accra due to an overseas trip for medical treatment for an undisclosed health condition. However, having recovered, Eguavoen is back in Nigeria and poised to rejoin his team.
A close associate of the coach revealed to CompleteSports.com, “Eguavoen is back in the country. He will be in Uyo today to oversee preparations for the Super Eagles B match against Ghana.”
In Eguavoen’s absence, the team was managed by assistant coaches Daniel Ogunmodede and Fidelis Ilechukwu, who guided the side to a resilient 0-0 draw in the first leg.
The Super Eagles B team is camped at the Luna Park Hotel in Uyo, a change from their previous accommodation at Four Points by Sheraton, Ikot Ekpene.
The visiting Black Galaxies of Ghana are expected to arrive in Uyo today, Friday, December 27, traveling via the Port Harcourt International Airport.
Nigeria’s home-based team needs a decisive victory on Saturday to secure their spot at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament, a prestigious competition exclusively featuring players from domestic leagues. With Eguavoen’s return and home support, hopes are high for a successful outing.
