Ogunmodede: Super Eagles Focused on Securing CHAN Berth

Published on: 28 December 2024

Home Eagles coach Daniel Ogunmodede says the team is fully focused on securing a place at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) ahead of their decisive qualifying tie against Ghana, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Nigeria will host Ghana in the second leg of the final qualifying round tie at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, on Saturday, after the first leg ended in a 0-0 draw at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Ogunmodede declared that his team is battle-ready for the Ghanaians, emphasizing the importance of staying focused and avoiding distractions.

"We are doing everything to stay focused by avoiding any distractions. Yes, we got a scoreless draw in the first leg away and now playing at home, but we are not in any way carried away," Ogunmodede said during the pre-match press conference.

"Our objective was to score an away goal in Accra but that did not happen. On Saturday, we will approach the game like our lives depend on it.

"Our watchword is getting the win that will qualify us for the African Nations Championship finals coming up in East Africa."

The overall winner of the tie will secure a berth at the CHAN 2024, which will be co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.
