Dosu Questions Ighalo, Eagles Players Omission From FIFPro Africa Eleven

Published on: 08 January 2020

Former Nigeria international Joseph Dosu has questioned the omission of former Super Eagles striker Odion ighalo and some of his ex-national team colleagues from the FIFPro Africa’s Best Eleven.

In the Africa eleven that was unveiled at the 2019 CAF Player award on Monday in Egypt, no Super Eagles players made the list.

Ighalo finished top scorer at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt after scoring five goals.

He was also top scorer during the AFCON qualifiers with seven goals.

Another Eagles player who was expected to make the list is Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi.

The list include Andre Onana and Joel Matip of Cameroon, Sadio Mane, Kalidou Koulibaly and Idrissa Gueye of Senegal, Cote d’Ivoire’s Serge Aurier and Morocco’s duo Achraf Hakimi and Hakim Ziyech.

Also on the list are Mohamed Salah of Egypt, Algeria’s Riyad Mahrez and Gabon’ s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

“This CAF award…….Hmmmmmmm, AFRICA 11, no Nigerian player, even top goal scorer Jude Odion Ighalo not in the list,” Dosu, a gold medal winner at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic game, wrote on his Facebook page.

Nigeria also missed out in the Africa Youth Player of The Year category as the duo of Samuel Chukwueze and Victor Osimhen lost to Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi.

However, Asisat Oshoala emerged winner of the Africa Women’s Player of The Year Awardfor a record-equalling fourth title.
