Gigi Donnarumma was involved in a post-match confrontation with a Liverpool supporter after Manchester City were given a hostile reception at Anfield.
The Italy goalkeeper was targeted by the home crowd throughout the game, with Liverpool fans making their feelings known from the warm-up onwards through boos, chants and banners referring to alleged breaches of the Premier League’s financial rules.
The tense atmosphere continued after the final whistle, when Donnarumma was walking towards the tunnel. A number of Liverpool supporters shouted insults at him, including calling him a “cheat”.
Donnarumma immediately reacted. Clearly irritated, he turned towards the stands and became involved in a direct exchange with one of the fans.
Manchester City staff intervened and managed to calm the situation, preventing the confrontation from escalating further.
