Chelsea's Willian Set to Miss Leicester City Clash Following Sad News of His Mother's Death

Published on: 12 October 2016

"?Chelsea winger Willian will be unavailable for selection in the club's clash with Leicester City on Saturday following the unfortunate news of his mother's death.

The Brazilian wide-man has been the bright spark in an inconsistent start from Antonio Conte's side so far this season, but the Italian coach will have to look for inspiration elsewhere in the Blues' early afternoon kick off against the reigning Premier League champions.

Willian was on international duty with Brazil when he heard the news, and dedicated the goal he scored in his country's 2-0 victory over Venezuela to his mother, who had been battling a brain tumour for two-and-a-half-years despite numerous forms of treatments and operations.

In remembrance of his late mother, the 28-year-old wrote a poem for her on his Instagram account, alongside a picture of the two of them, which received masses of support from football fans across the globe.

According to "?Sky Sports, Willian was understandably granted leave from his duties at the club under compassionate grounds, and the West London side released a statement sending their condolences to Willian and his family during this time, stating: "All of us at Chelsea Football Club are sending our love and deepest condolences to Willian and his family after the passing of his mother.

"We are thinking of you Willian."

The player, who has been linked with a move to French Champions Paris Saint-Germain in recent weeks, has suggested that he would like to finish his career at Stamford Bridge, after falling in love with the club falling his move from Anzhi Makhachkala in 2013.
