Bayern Munich were held to a 2-2 draw by Augsburg in a dramatic Bavarian derby on Saturday, with Ismael Saibari scoring the equaliser for the Bundesliga leaders. The match featured several errors from Manuel Neuer and four goals ruled out for offside.
Bayern were behind after only six seconds when Robin Fellhauer opened the scoring for Augsburg, leaving the visitors chasing the game for much of the contest.
Saibari started as the number 10, operating behind Harry Kane, and played a key role in Bayern’s response. Luis Diaz appeared to have levelled shortly after half-time, but his effort was ruled out following a VAR review.
Bayern did not have to wait long for an equaliser, however. Saibari restored parity in the 51st minute after controlling the ball superbly before directing a precise finish into the bottom corner.
Augsburg regained the lead when Rodrigo Ribeiro capitalised on a poor clearance by Neuer. The Bayern goalkeeper was involved in several errors during a match in which his side were repeatedly made to work for a result.
The home side were eventually denied victory when Nathaniel Brown scored Bayern’s second goal in the 80th minute. Bayern then continued to push for a winner, but despite creating further chances they could not complete the comeback.
Serge Gnabry thought he had scored in added time, only for his goal to be disallowed for offside. It was the fourth effort ruled out on those grounds during an eventful derby.
The draw leaves Bayern with frustration in the Bundesliga title race, while Saibari can take personal satisfaction from an important contribution in a high-scoring match. Playing in an advanced role behind Kane, he responded with his first goal of the contest to help his side recover from an early setback.
