Barcelona maintained their perfect start to the La Liga season with a 5-2 away win against Real Betis, collecting the maximum 27 points from their first nine matches.
Only one team had previously opened a La Liga campaign with nine victories: Real Madrid, who achieved the feat in the 1968/1969 season.
Barcelona have now matched that record 58 years later.
Their attacking statistics are also among the best in the competition’s history. Barcelona have scored 39 goals in their opening nine league games, their strongest return at this stage since the 1940/1941 season.
Sevilla had scored 42 goals after nine matches that season, which remains the best total.
Barcelona’s next La Liga fixture will be at home to Real Madrid. The El Clasico is scheduled for Sunday, 25 October.
