Asamoah Gyan admits the poor state of the pitch contributed to Ghana's dis-jointed play in the 7-1 thumping of Mauritius on Sunday.

The Black Stars impressed despite the impediment of playing on a patchy surface to get their campaign in 2017 AFCON qualifiers to a flying start.

Gyan who scored a brace on the day had complained about the poor state of the pitch ahead of the game - which was even made worse by an early downpour.

The Al Ain ace again reechoed complaints about the sorry nature of the pitch which he says was even helped by the earlier rains.

“The field wasn’t what we wanted but at the end of the day we won so I have nothing to day,” he said.

“But the way we wanted to move the ball, we didn’t get it that way but at the end of the day we won.

“I said it after the Togo game that we wanted to possess the ball very good but I think what helped us a bit was the weather.

“There was water on the field so the ball was moving very good although the pitch wasn’t good but I think the water helped us a bit.”
