Wojciech Szczesny wants former team-mate Thomas Vermaelen to ignore Liverpool's interest and join him at Roma.
The 26-year-old recently made his loan move from Arsenal to Roma a permanent one, while the Serie A outfit are also believed to be chasing Vermaelen, and Szczesny is hoping the Barcelona defender joins him in Italy rather than head back to England.
"Vermaelen is a good player. I haven't spoken to him much since he left Arsenal, but he's a very good player," Szczesny told Roma's "?official club website.
"If there was a possibility of him playing for Roma, I'd be delighted because he's a very good friend of mine and a terrific player."
Vermaelen is likely to leave Barcelona after the La Liga champions signed Samuel Umtiti from Lyon, and there were rumours suggesting a move back to former club Arsenal was a possibility.
"?AS, however, report a move to Liverpool is more likely with Jurgen Klopp interested in the former Gunners captain.
"?Corriere dello Sport, on the other hand, believe Roma have already reached an agreement with the Belgium defender.
The 30-year-old has only made 11 league appearances for Barcelona after leaving Arsenal for the Catalan club in 2014 and has now fallen down even further in the pecking order due to Umtiti's arrival.
Much like his time at the Emirates, Vermaelen has struggled for fitness, only managing to play a single game during Barcelona's 2014/15 La Liga campaign where they were crowned champions.
