West Ham are lining up a move for former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique now that Aaron Cresswell faces time on the sidelines due to an injury.
That is according to the Express (H/T IBTimes), who report that Hammers boss Slaven Bilic is searching for a quick fix for his back line in the wake of a knee ligament injury suffered by Cresswell.
Bilic is short at the left-back position. And with Stephen Hendrie on a season-long loan at Blackburn, youngster Lewis Page remains the club's only natural in the role.
West Ham will be playing in the Europa League next season, which leaves them with loads of fixtures to navigate through. In light of that, Enrique has emerged as a target for the London club, who are looking to have an even better campaign than the last one.
The Reds released the 30-year-old Spaniard from his contract before the end of the season, making him a free agent. His contract was supposed to expire in June, but Jurgen Klopp brought about an early end in attempts to help the player find a club quicker.
He hasn't found a new team to date, and the West Ham boss views him as a reliable option who can help the club's ambitions during the upcoming campaign.
Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew is also said to be interested in signing the player, having worked with him at Newcastle.
It has been understood that Enrique wants regular first-team action next season, but the Hammers are also looking at Norwich pair Robbie Brady and Martin Olsson.
