Thomas Tuchel Will Bring Out the Best in Mario Gotze Says Borussia Dortmund CEO

Published on: 23 July 2016

Mario Gotze will return to his brilliant best under the tutelage of Borussia Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel, according to club CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke.

Gotze returned to the Westfalenstadion on Thursday after three years at Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich and, although not every Dortmund fan has seemed willing to let the player back into their hearts, Watzke believes Gotze will let his football do the talking.

Under Tuchel, Watzke expects Gotze to reach a similar standard to when he, alongside the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Marco Reus, helped Jurgen Klopp's side win back-to-back Bundesliga titles in 2011 and 2012.

"We are convinced that our coach will bring back Mario back to the top level he had with us," Watzke told Bild, as quoted by "?Goal.

"In Munich, Mario started thinking too much while playing soccer. He's certainly lost a little self-confidence."

Gotze reached out to Dortmund fans on social media following news that a deal to bring him back had been completed.

"When I switched to Bayern in 2013 it was a conscious decision which I will not hide myself behind," he wrote.

"Today, three years later and at 24, I look at that decision in a different light. It was not a decision I would make today,"? he said.

"I can understand many fans could not accept my decision,"? he added. "I wouldn't reach it today either."?
