Schalke Sporting Director Rubbishes Max Meyer's Rumoured Liverpool Switch

Published on: 26 July 2016

"?Schalke's sporting director Christian Heidel has attempted to cool transfer speculation surrounding the club's highly-rated Max Meyer by insisting that he is not for sale.

"?Speaking to German newspaper RevierSport, Heidel stated that the club have no intention of letting their young prospect leave the club this summer.

Meyer has been linked with Premier League side Liverpool alongside a host of other big clubs from across the continent after emerging as one of the finest young players in Europe last season.

It is believed that the Reds had lined up a £27m move for the German youngster in a bid to bring him to Anfield.

Schalke sporting director Christian Heidel says he has spoken to Jurgen Klopp recently, but that a move for Max Meyer is "nonsense."

"?Heidel has previously spoken out on Meyer's proposed move to Merseyside insisted it to be nonsense.

"I know Klopp a bit, and I have spoken with him recently and I think he would have been determined to speak to me then, if interest had been there" he said.

After scoring five Bundesliga goals for the club last season, Meyer is expected to represent his country at the upcoming Rio Olympics after missing out on a place at this summer's Euro 2016 in France.

However Heidel is confident that Meyer will return to the Schalke following the conclusion of Germany's participation in Brazil insisting the club have no intentions of letting the 20-year-old leave.

"There are no aspirations to allow Meyer to leave the club" he said.

The club's chief went on to insist that the rumours linking Meyer with a move away from the club were instead similar fiction made up in the German media.

Transfer talk was an "invention of the Bild newspaper" he stated.

Heidel will be keen to ensure Meyer remains a Schalke player after reports suggest that fellow youngster Leroy Sane is close to a move away from the Veltins Arena.

Sane has been constantly linked with a move to Manchester City following Pep Guardiola's arrival at Eastlands.
