A statement on the club's website read: "Leicester City Football Club is delighted to announce that Riyad Mahrez has signed a new contract, committing his future to the Foxes until June, 2020.

"The reigning PFA Players' Player of the Year signs new terms after playing a starring role in City's unforgettable Premier League title triumph last season "? the latest stage of a remarkable journey for the 25-year-old Algerian in Leicester City colours."

Mahrez scored 17 league goals and delivered 11 assists for Leicester last season, winning the PFA Player of the Year award at the end of the season, as well as the Premier League title.

He is already off the mark in this new campaign, having scored from the spot during Leicester's 2-1 opening-day loss to Hull City on Saturday. The Algerian was linked to several big clubs, including Chelsea and Arsenal, over the summer, but Ranieri has managed to tie him down for the foreseeable future with this new deal.

The 25-year-old recently admitted that only 'one or two clubs' could get him to leave Leicester.

"It is a super league and I would like to stay here as long as possible,"? he told France Football.

"Now, there are two or three clubs in the world, that if they come for me, it definitely makes you think, if you understand what I am trying to say.

"It [the Premier League] is the best league in the world, the most exciting, where there is the most at stake. There is also constantly a little uncertainty. Last year, we won the league. In Spain, you will never see Levante or Granada finishing top. In France, since the new PSG, it is the same."
