"?Djibril Sidibe has explained why he chose Monaco over Arsenal this summer in an interview with "?France Football.
Arsenal were linked with bringing the Lille defender to North London back in July, but after a short while of negotiating with Wenger, the 24-year-old picked to move the marvellous shores of Monaco.
Arsene Wenger was understood to be an avid admirer of the versatile France international and made his intentions known to both the player and his club at the time. However, Wenger's words of wisdom were not enough to entice Sidibe from France, and instead saw him joining Ligue 1 outfit AS Monaco.
Sidibe told France Football: "I hesitated a lot. But knew my playing time would be limited at Arsenal."
Sidibe would not be wrong when he said playing time would be limited, but after injuries to Gabriel Paulista and captain Per Mertesacker, Sidibe may have found more than he bargained for at the Emirates, partnering fellow French centre back Laurent Koscielny in recent games.
Wenger is still on a desperate look-out for a centre back, most notably being Shkodran Mustafi of Valencia, with negotiations ongoing for quite a while now. Mustafi looks to be Arsenal's top target this summer, but have so far failed to agree on a price.
With the list of failed targets slowly building up for Wenger, goals leaking in and time running out in the transfer window, will Wenger give in to Valencia's demands or simply return empty-handed come September?
