Napoli keeping tabs on Benfica striker as replacement to Higuain

Napoli have added Kostas Mitroglou to their wishlist in order to improve their attacking options following on from Gonzalo Higuain’s move to Juventus.

The Partenopei don’t intend to spend much time in finding a replacement for their departing striker and they have already set sights on Carlos Bacca and Mauro Icardi as potential candidates to lead the line.

According to Portuguese newspapers Record, Napoli will consider signing Mitroglou not as their first choice, but rather as an alternative for either Bacca or Icardi.

The Greece international enjoyed a successful loan spell at Benfica last season, scoring 25 goals in 45 appearances, helping his team to win the Portuguese league title and reach the quarter-finals in Champions League.

Benfica signed the player permanently from Fulham for €7 million at the end of 2015-16 season and it is expected that they would make a hefty profit should the deal with Napoli go through.
