Leicester City Head of Recruitment Steve Walsh Agrees Deal in Principal to Join Everton

Published on: 19 July 2016

Leicester City have reluctantly agreed to let their head of recruitment Steve Walsh leave the club to join Everton as director of football, according to "?Sky Sports

The Premier League champions had previously turned down an approach from the Toffees for Walsh but have been left with no choice, after he requested to be closer to his family in the North West.

Everton manager Ronald Koeman worked under a technical director at Southampton and is keen to replicate such a working structure at Goodison Park.

The Dutchman has been given significant financial backing from Everton's owners and the view is Koeman and Walsh together can conduct excellent business in the transfer market.

Walsh helped shape Leicester's title-winning heroes, playing a key role in the transfers of Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez and N'Golo Kante.

Walsh agreed a new contract with Leicester in May but the two clubs have now agreed compensation, leaving just final formalities to be completed.

Walsh's shrewd eye in the transfer market is what has attracted Everton to him. The club are looking to a season of resurgence under Koeman, starting with bolstetring their squad significantly.

Everton's billionaire investor Farhad Moshiri wants to implement the European-style director of football model at Goodison, just like Koeman, and their plan is slowly but surely coming together.

Walsh may have his work cut out for him immediately with star striker Romelu Lukaku previously speaking of his desire to play Champions League football, suggesting that the Toffees may well be looking for his replacement.
