Klopp Rejected Gotze and Chilwell After Doubting Their Desire to Join Liverpool

"?Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp reportedly gave up on signing both Leicester's Ben Chilwell and Borussia Dortmund's Mario Gotze, after doubting their desire to join the Merseyside club.

"?The Liverpool Echo have reported that Klopp lost interest in both Chilwell and Gotze, believing that neither of them would be completely committed to Liverpool.

Chilwell, 19, has been locked in contract negotiations with Leicester for the summer, and finally looks set to sign a new deal with the Premier League champions.

Gotze's future had been the subject of fierce transfer speculation, but he eventually moved backed to former club Borussia Dortmund earlier this month after an unsuccessful period with Bayern Munich.

Klopp had previously been keen to sign Chilwell, and Liverpool had a £7m bid rejected last month, but it now looks like the Reds will have to search elsewhere in their hunt for a reserve left-back following the imminent sale of Brad Smith to Bournemouth.

A move for Mario Gotze also seemed like a possibility, given that Klopp played a major role in the German international's development whilst the pair were at Dortmund. Gotze's career has arguably stalled since his move to Bayern, and the 24-year-old has moved back to Dortmund in search of the form that made him of of Europe's brightest young talents.

Jurgen Klopp's hardline stance on players has been further demonstrated by the actions taken against Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho, after the Frenchman reportedly arrived late for a flight in the US, and was subsequently sent home from their pre-season tour.

The club have contradicted this claim, however, and state that Sakho will be receiving treatment for an achilles injury.
