"My move to West Ham has been closed," he explained.
"I wanted to play in Europe and hopefully I can adapt quickly."
An update from West Ham's own official transfer 'Insider' last month had revealed that an agreement was in place and that a deal was completed subject to a work permit application. The case was due to heard last week and appears to have been successful.
At the time the club proudly claimed that there had been significant interest in Calleri from other European sides. Sevilla and Inter Milan were among those rumoured to be sniffing around.
Calleri, who top scored in this year's Copa Libertadores tournament with nine goals, is currently away with the Argentina Under-23 team ahead of the Olympic tournament which kicks off later this week.
With the South American nation among the favourites for the gold medal, the competition in Brazil will be a good early opportunity for Hammers fans to catch a glimpse of the 22-year-old in action.
Manuel Lanzini was also due to play at the Olympics before an unfortunate knee injury ended his opportunity to represent his country before it began. He has since returned to England for assessment and treatment.
