"?Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng has revealed his honourable desire to become the German national team's first black captain.
The 27-year-old has earned 65 caps for Germany since his debut in 2009, playing a key role in Germany's World Cup win in 2014.
Germany are currently without a captain, after Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger announced his retirement from international football after Euro 2016.
With Boateng being awarded the "?2016 German footballer of the year award, several Germany supporters are calling for the Berlin-born defender to be named as captain.
The commanding central defender, whose father is from Ghana, first spoke out about potentially becoming Germany's first black captain "?in 2014, and he now spoken out about his desire again, telling "?Kicker that he would 'love to do it'.

"Of course, this would set an example," Boateng said. "It would indeed be a huge honour to occupy such a role as the first black guy. That would be significant."
Bayern's Manuel Neuer, Real Madrid's Toni Kroos and Juventus' Sami Khedira are also in the mix for the new role, and Boateng admitted that: "Other great players who could also do it."
Boateng played an inspired role as Bayern won their fourth consecutive Bundesliga title last season. He also started in the DFB-Pokal final against Borussia Dortmund, which Bayern won 4-3 on penalties after a neither side could break the deadlock in 120 minutes.
