"?Arsenal and England midfielder Jack Wilshere has talked up the signing of Switzerland international Granit Xhaka by the London club, insisting that the 23-year-old midfield man can hold the Gunners' midfield together.
Xhaka joined Arsenal as their only big-profile signing so far summer, penning a deal back in May, having played at Borussia Monchengladbach for the past four seasons.
He made 36 appearances for the German outfit last season, impressing immensely. That prompted Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger to splash £30m to secure his signature.
Speaking to the "?official Arsenal website, Wilshere hailed the Swiss midfielder, whom he expects to be a hit at the Emirates next season.
"I've played against him a few times at youth level for England and also for the first team with England, so I know him quite well," he said.
"I've always thought he was a good player, he's very strong and has got a good left foot.
"He's a leader, he can hold the midfield together and can get things going from back to front. He's a good signing."
Wilshere and Xhaka could feature together when the Gunners take on the MLS All-Star side in San Jose on Thursday. The Englishman claimed to be excited at the prospect of playing against greats such as Andrea Pirlo and Kaka.
"Yes, I'm very excited about the game," Wilshere added. "These are players I looked up to when I was growing up - the likes of Pirlo and Kaka.
"My generation looked up to them. They have been at the top of their game for more than ten years and it will be nice to play against them."
