Gianluigi Buffon Tips Paul Pogba to Emulate Success of France Legend Zinedine Zidane

Published on: 21 August 2016

Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has tipped Man Utd record-signing Paul Pogba to become a world beater, comparing him to France legends Zinedine Zidane and Michel Platini.

The 38-year-old has been teammates with both Zidane and Pogba at Juventus during his playing career, and he feels that if Pogba continues to grow he will become the world's best.

Pogba was impressive for Jose Mourinho's side against Southampton on Friday night, which marked his first appearance at United since making a £90m switch from Juventus earlier this month.

And Buffon thinks he has what it takes to emulate the achievements of Zidane and Platini, both of whom enjoyed illustrious careers for both France and Juventus.

"?"With luck it is possible. The kid is a tremendous warrior on the pitch but also has so much talent." Buffon said, as quoted by "?Sky Sports. "His control of the ball and the way he can swiftly change the play from defence to attack is special - and for us it hurts to lose him."

He continued: "It's not easy to compare him to greats of the past but he has many details of the games of both Platini and Zidane."

Buffon went on to say that he has no doubts Pogba can achieve silverware at United under newly-appointed boss Jose Mourinho.

"I have no doubts that Paul will be a success in the Premier League." he added.

"It may take some time to adapt but I'm certain he will do it, especially as he knows the club well which is important.

"The important thing is that his attitude is excellent on the pitch and in training. The thing we will miss most now he has gone is his closeness with everyone in the team."
