Former Liverpool star Steve Nicol has said that the presence of new signing Georginio Wijnaldum does not threaten the future of captain Jordan Henderson, despite the latter's indifferent 2015/16 campaign.
Despite the departure of Joe Allen to Stoke City, the Liverpool midfield pack remains crowded - but Nicol insisted to "?ESPN FC that the Dutchman occupied a different role in the side to the 26-year-old England international.

Asked if Henderson could be pushed out, he replied: "No I don't think so. I think Wijnaldum's signing is because he's a player who gets from the middle of the park into the opposition penalty box. Jordan Henderson doesn't do that but I don't the signing of Wijnaldum directly affects him."?
Wijnaldum himself has already admitted that he's taking nothing for granted when it comes to his place in the team, saying: "Jurgen is in charge and he will decide who's going to play.
"We as players must make it difficult for him.
"Everyone wants to play, we need to train well and then he will decide on the lineup. For me it's good that I can play in more positions because that makes it easier for the coach and also easier to play."

He also revealed that it was a conversation with Klopp himself that convinced him to make the switch from Newcastle, saying: "In that conversation he made me feel really good. He gave me a lot of confidence because he said he liked my way of playing football.
"He said I was a person he really wanted to have in his squad. Something like that is always good to hear. It made me happy, especially as it came from such a great trainer like Jurgen Klopp."
