Dyche Delights as Awoniyi Ends Goal Drought in Forest Win Over Brentford

Sean Dyche has praised the impact of Super Eagles forward Taiwo Awoniyi after Nottingham Forest recorded a crucial 2–0 Premier League victory over Brentford on Sunday, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Goals from Igor Jesus and Awoniyi secured the win for Forest, extending their unbeaten run to three matches and moving them five points clear of the relegation zone. Jesus opened the scoring in the first half with a neat touch and composed finish, while Awoniyi wrapped up the result with his first league goal in over a year.

The strike was a particularly emotional moment for the Nigerian forward, who suffered a serious abdominal injury late last season after colliding with a goalpost. Dyche admitted he was especially pleased to see Awoniyi back among the goals.

“Absolutely buzzing,” the Forest boss said. “He works hard for us and trained well in the last week. I had a chat with him, nothing heavy, and reminded him to be free. He looked free when he came on, worked very hard, and it was a very good finish.”

Dyche explained that he deliberately avoided dwelling on Awoniyi’s past injury, choosing instead to focus on confidence and enjoyment within a professional setting.

“I don’t keep reflecting on it. What happened was very serious, but it’s about getting on with it and enjoying your football, with responsibility,” he added. “He had a soft spell a couple of weeks ago, but he’s come out of it sharper and more alive. I did not doubt putting him on.”

The Forest manager also reserved praise for Igor Jesus, who continues to grow in influence.

“I’m pleased for Igor as well. He’s been knocking on the door, working very hard, and he got his reward with a good bit of play and a fine finish,” Dyche said.

Forest will hope the result provides momentum as they continue their push for Premier League survival, with Dyche stressing the importance of collective focus and positivity within the squad.
