Dwight Yorke: Paul Pogba Arrival Will Help Wayne Rooney Rediscover His Best Form

Manchester United legend Dwight Yorke believes the "?arrival of Paul Pogba at Old Trafford will be a boost for captain Wayne Rooney.

A world record deal to take Pogba back to the club he left in 2012 is expected to be completed in the coming days, and former Manchester United treble winner Yorke thinks signing the Juventus midfielder will allow Jose Mourinho to get the best out of Rooney.

"Hopefully, with the acquisition of Pogba coming into the team, he [Rooney] doesn't have to worry about coming looking for the ball. The ball will finally come to him," Yorke told Sport360 and as quoted on "?FourFourTwo.

"I can see why Mourinho said 'listen, he's going to be playing up top', because that's where Rooney is good. That's a specialist position," the former Manchester United striker added.

"When you play in that position all the time, your mindset is like that. He doesn't have to go looking for the ball now. I think that's part of Mourinho's plan."

Yorke's words come after Mourinho confirmed Rooney would not be deployed as a midfielder for the forthcoming season.

The England captain had been used as a central midfielder for the Three Lions at this summer's Euros and in the past for Manchester United under Louis van Gaal. But Mourinho made it clear during his unveiling as United boss that Rooney would not be playing in that area of the pitch from now on.

"You can tell me his pass is amazing but my pass is amazing too without pressure," Mourinho told "?Sky Sports when Rooney's passing range from midfield was brought up.

"Maybe he's not a striker any more. Maybe he is not a No 9 anymore but he will never, with me, be a No.6. He will never be 50 metres from the goal. For me he will be a No 9 or a No 10 or a nine-and-a-half, but with me he will never be a No 6 or even a No 8."
