Published on: 19 August 2016

"?Crystal Palace have shattered their transfer record to officially complete the signing of Liverpool striker Christian Benteke for a deal believed to be worth around £27m plus various add-ons.

Benteke has signed a four-year contract that will keep him at Selhurst Park until 2020 and he becomes the fourth new arrival of the summer after pacey winger Andros Townsend, French goalkeeper Steve Mandanda and ex-West Ham defender James Tomkins

The Eagles broke their transfer record last summer to land Yohan Cabaye from Paris Saint-Germain for £10m and then surpassed that with the £13m spent on Townsend in July. But the fee now paid for Benteke has taken the south London club to whole new level.

Benteke struggled to establish himself at Liverpool last season following a £32.5m move from Aston Villa 12 months ago. But he brings with him to Palace a proven track of being able to score goals in the Premier League, something Alan Pardew's team were crying out for in 2015/16.

Now 25 years of age, Benteke boasted a goal return of 42 in 89 Premier League games in Aston Villa colours prior to making the move to Merseyside.
