Crystal Palace and Southampton Both Vying for FC Porto Striker Moussa Marega

Premier League duo Crystal Palace and Southampton are reportedly competing with each other for the signature of FC Porto striker Moussa Marega, according to French publication Foot Mercato.

Marega, 25, has so far had a 2016 to forget. He failed to get on the scoresheet in his nine starts in the Primera Liga and was dropped from the last four matches in the league. However, he did manage to score an impressive 12 goals in 29 matches for his previous club Maritimo in the first half of the last campaign.

The Mali international has interested a number of clubs around Europe and according to reports in Portugal, Crystal Palace and Southampton are both keen on adding him to their ranks.

Palace have shown strong interest in a number of forwards this summer after struggling in the latter parts of last season in front of goal. They had a number of bids for Liverpool's Christian Benteke rejected, while Chelsea stole a march on them to sign Michy Batshuayi from Marseille.

The Saints, now managed by Claude Puel, sold Graziano Pelle to China and received £36m from Liverpool Sadio Mane and they understandably keen on signing a striker to replace the forwards they have lost.

But, as aforementioned, a number of clubs around Europe are keen on signing the powerful striker. It is understood Marseille, who have lost a number of key forwards this summer already, are heading the queue to sign the 25-year-old but due to their financial troubles, it would be an initial loan deal.
