Chelsea's Baba Rahman on Verge of Being Announced as a Schalke Player

"?Schalke are even closer to announcing the signing of Baba Rahman from Chelsea with official confirmation set to be made public shortly.

Schalke's official Twitter account have highlighted how close the deal is, including the Ghanaian defender in one of their tweets:

The 22-year-old was signed from FC Augsburg last season by Jose Mourinho, however, the African defender struggled to establish himself at Stamford Bridge in the 23 appearances he made for the club.

Cesar Azpilicueta has been first choice left-back for some time now and Rahman has probably made a wise choice moving back to Germany in search of more playing time.

Antonio Conte was said to be interested in utilising the young defender in his first-team plans this season, but now it seems a formality that he will jump ship.

It leaves Chelsea rather short in the left-back positon after allowing Filipe Luis to return to Atletico Madrid last summer.

Conte will most likely dive back into the transfer market to search for back-ups in both central and wide defensive roles.

It is unknown what defensive system the Italian manager will use this season, with the former Juventus and Italy manager often favouring three at the back.

Rahman himself will be no doubt be pleased to leave a club which has sadly allowed his career to stagnate.

Schalke could be the perfect environment for him to rediscover the form that warranted him a £17m price-tag in the first place.

Sead Kolasinac will be the main man in direct competition with Rahman for the starting berth on the left-hand side of the German club's defence.
