The Egypt international will now continue to resurrect his playing career after his progression stalled during his time at Stamford Bridge.

Salah originally joined Chelsea in January 2014 for a fee thought to be in the region of £14m.

The former FC Basel man was at the centre of a winter transfer window tussle between Chelsea and Liverpool at the time.

Salah, then 22, opted for the bright lights of London over the Anfield-based club, and completed his move five days before the 2013/14 mid-season window closed.

He featured 11 times for then-manager Jose Mourinho, scoring twice and helped Chelsea to finish third in the Barclays Premier League.

However, Salah found first-team opportunities at a premium from the beginning of the following season - the attacking midfielder featuring just eight times during the first five months of the campaign.

The 24-year-old spent the second half of the season on loan at Fiorentina, making 26 appearances as I Viola progressed to the Europa League semi-final stage.

Salah missed out on receiving Premier League and League Cup winners' medals with Chelsea

because of his temporary spell away at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

And, with Mourinho remaining in charge before his eventual sacking last December, Salah opted to agree to a 12 month stay with Roma last term.

In total, Salah made 19 appearances for Chelsea, scoring twice and picking up four assists.

@ChelseaFC @22mosalah can we have fireworks, beer vouchers and a party bag on every seat for the first home game of the season to celebrate?
